I’ve been in the news business since January 1966, when I joined the staff of the Hammond (IN) Times, now based in Munster, IN. I’ve worked on the Bloomington Tribune in Bloomington, IN., The Milwaukee Sentinel, from 1967 to 1976 (The Sentinel, one of Wisconsin’s oldest newspapers, is now merged into The Milwaukee Journal and is known as the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, but when I worked there we were fierce rivals, even though we were owned by the same company). I joined the staff of the Los Angeles Times in Feb. 1976 and worked there until Aug. 1990. I’ve reported in West Virginia for almost 10 years at the Register-Herald in Beckley and since the early part of this century, for Huntington News Network, an onlline news magazine based in Huntington, WV. I’m a 1961 graduate of Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL. My memberships include the National Assn. of Real Estate Editors (since 1971, president 1984); the National Rifle Association, the Texas State Rifle Association, and the Bay Gun Club, Port Lavaca TX. Liz and I currently live in Port Lavaca, on the Texas Gulf Coast.
